TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is expanding visitation at all Incentivized Prisons (IPs) statewide. Currently, families and loved ones can apply for visitation on both Saturday and Sunday of each week at every institution. Starting July 29, 2021, visitation will be expanded to offer Thursday and Friday as additional regular visitation days at 5 IPs statewide:
IPs are designed to encourage inmates throughout the prison system to cooperate with expectations relative to behavior, program participation, and self-betterment. Those who do, are eligible for reassignment to these facilities with advanced privileges. This includes more freedom of movement, improved menus, open seating in dining halls, more recreation time, game rooms and other privileges.
Inmates who have participated in IPs have better program outcomes, fewer disciplinary infractions, and reductions in theft and violence. This approach enhances safety, living conditions and improves conditions in all FDC facilities as inmates strive to meet IP eligibility requirements.
FDC is committed to expanding the IP program as necessary, ensuring inmates who meet eligibility requirements have a space and an opportunity to make positive choices.
As Florida's largest state agency, and the third largest state prison system in the country, FDC employs 24,000 members, incarcerates 80,000 inmates and supervises nearly 146,000 offenders in the community.
